NFL Week 5 Roundup

Welcome back to the Weekly Roundup. As always, we will be highlighting this past week’s injury report, top performers, underperformers, and surprise producers. There was no shortage of stunning storylines during Week 5 of the 2023 NFL Season, so let’s recap the action.

INJURY ROUNDUP

Justin Jefferson (MIN) - Hamstring

  • Justin Jefferson will need to undergo further testing on the hamstring he injured in Week 5 before managers know the extent of his potential absence. If Jefferson is forced to sit on the sidelines, Jordan Addison and K.J. Osborn would share the displacement of vacated snaps.

Travis Kelce (KC) - Ankle

  • Travis Kelce went down with a terrifying non-contact injury early in the Chiefs Week 5 matchup but was ultimately able to return to the game. A high ankle sprain will be the official injury designation but do not be surprised if the veteran tight end is back on the field in Week 6.

Anthony Richardson (IND) - Shoulder

  • The star rookie quarterback suffered an AC-joint sprain to his throwing shoulder after a forceful hit knocked him out of the contest. Richardson was promptly placed on injured reserve, keeping him sidelined for a minimum of four games. Gardner Minshew will slide up as the starter on the depth chart and has been a serviceable quarterback at every point of his NFL career.

James Conner (ARI) - Knee

  • The Cardinals' lead back was forced to exit their Week 5 matchup against the Bengals with a knee injury. The extent of said injury has yet to be determined. Consider Conner questionable to play in Week 6 while we monitor the situation.

Khalil Herbert (CHI) - Ankle

  • Khalil Herbert missed most of the second half in the Bears Week 5 win after suffering an ankle sprain. Herbert is expected to miss several games while he recovers.

Tank Dell (HOU) - Head (Concussion)

  • Tank Dell reportedly suffered a concussion in the Texans' Week 5 outing, leaving his availability for the following contest in question.

Javonte Williams (DEN) - Quadricep

  • Javonte Williams was trending towards playing in Week 5 but was ultimately held out of the gameplan, paving the way for undrafted rookie Jaleel McLaughlin to have a career day. Expect more of McLaughlin in the lineup regardless of Williams’ health.

Amon-Ra St. Brown (DET) - Abdomen

  • Amon-Ra St. Brown did his best to clear the injury list leading up to the Lions' Week 5 matchup but was ultimately held out of the contest. St. Brown was able to get a limited practice in and should be inserted back into the lineup for Week 6.

Jahmyr Gibbs (DET) - Hamstring

  • Jahmyr Gibbs popped up on the injury report midweek after re-aggravating a hamstring injury in practice. Gibbs' absence makes David Montgomery a must-start RB1 until he returns.

Tee Higgins (CIN) - Ribs

  • Tee Higgins is dealing with a rib fracture that could keep him sidelined for several weeks. The Bengals offense operated at their best rate this season without Higgins in the lineup, allowing Ja’Marr Chase to post a career-best outing.

De’Von Achane (MIA) - Knee/Ankle

  • De’Von Achane had his ankle/knee rolled on during a late carry in the third quarter. The rookie did not record another snap for the remainder of the game and is now listed as questionable for Week 6.

Kavonte Turpin (DAL) - Ankle

  • The Cowboys’ return specialist and big-play threat is dealing with a high ankle sprain from the Cowboys Week 5 loss to the 49ers.

Deebo Samuel (SF) - Rib/Knee

  • Samuel was banged up leading into the 49ers Week 4 game against the Cardinals and was heavily limited, earning zero targets in the game. The team admits that Samuel is not at 100.0% but will continue to play as long as the injuries do not worsen.

Elijah Mitchell (SF) - Knee

  • Elijah Mitchell was held out of the game with a knee injury that he suffered during practice.

Mike Evans (TB) - Hamstring

  • Mike Evans suffered a hamstring injury in the Buccaneers Week 4 matchup against the Saints. The Buccaneers' Week 5 bye gave the veteran wideout extra time to recoup before his next game but he has yet to be removed from the injury report.

Derek Carr (NO) - Shoulder

  • Derek Carr was originally expected to miss several weeks with an AC-joint sprain but was able to start for the Saints in back-to-back games following said injury. Unfortunately, this has led to disparaging results.

Saquon Barkley (NYG) - Ankle

  • Saquon Barkley has been unable to shed the injury designation he picked up in Week 2, missing the Giants' last three games.

Daniel Jones (NYG) - Neck

  • The Giants are optimistic that their starting quarterback avoided a serious injury in Week 5. Jones left the Giants Week 5 loss to the Dolphins early in the fourth quarter. Jones had been sacked 16 times in the last two contests combined before his sixth sack of the day in Week 5 forced him out of the game. Jones has dealt with similar neck injuries in the past but the team has not yet ruled him out for a start in Week 6.

Wan’Dale Robinson (NYG) - Knee

  • Wan’Dale Robinson had just returned to the lineup in Week 3 after needing additional time to recover from a season-ending knee injury suffered in 2022. Unfortunately, Robinson has found himself back on the injury report following the Giants' Week 5 loss as his surgically repaired knee is seemingly not yet 100.0% healthy.

Diontae Johnson (PIT) - Hamstring

  • Diontae Johnson remains sidelined with no timetable for return.

Pat Freiermuth (PIT) - Hamstring

  • The Steelers tight end joins his teammate on the injury list with a hamstring injury as well. Freiermuth appears to be in line to miss additional time alongside Johnson.

WEEKLY WEIGH-IN

Arizona Cardinals: Hollywood Heights

  • Do not let the common narratives surrounding the Cardinals detract from the fact that Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is consistently producing as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL despite a perceivably horrendous offensive situation.

  • Brown hauled in four of his team-high 10 targets for 61 yards and one touchdown in the Cardinals' Week 5 loss to the Bengals. He is a must-start fantasy asset for now and forever.

  • Rondale Moore led the team in rushing yards (50) and I will likely reference his new height for the rest of eternity.

  • Undrafted rookie running back Emari Demarcado saw extended work in James Conner’s absence, handling ten carries for 45 yards (4.5 YPC) with one rushing touchdown while adding one reception on three targets for another 12 yards.

Atlanta Falcons: Evolving Offense

  • Desmond Ridder had the best day of his career in terms of passing efficiency. The second-year quarterback attempted 37 passes, completing 28 for 329 yards and one touchdown with no sacks and no turnovers, adding 10 yards and one touchdown on the ground with four rushing attempts.

  • For the first time since being drafted, Drake London and Kyle Pitts led the Falcons as the top two target-earners on the offense.

  • Pitts saw a season-high and team-high 11 targets, leading the Falcons with seven receptions for 87 yards.

  • London hauled in six of nine targets or 78 yards while completing a 22-yard pass on a trick play.

  • Somewhat discouraging was Jonnu Smith’s continued usage as the veteran tight end saw seven targets, catching six passes for 67 yards.

  • Bijan Robinson is a different animal altogether, taking a short shovel pass to the endzone while faking out defenders with a behind-the-back AND-1 style crossover move on the way to six points.

Baltimore Ravens: Flock Drops

  • The Ravens pass-catchers set an embarrassing record in Week 5, recording more drops than any other team this season in a single game (7 Drops).

  • 18.4% of Lamar Jackson’s pass attempts resulted in a drop from his receiver despite 100.0% of said attempts being deemed catchable via PFF.

  • Odell Beckham Jr. and Rashod Bateman made their returns to the lineup but were rarely utilized as both players seemingly represent meaningless depth on the Ravens' offense.

  • Zay Flowers (5 REC/11 TGT/73 YDS) and Mark Andrews (6 REC/10 TGT/65 Yards) were the unquestionable favorite targets of Jackson while Nelson Agholor (4 REC/5 TGT/64 YDS) played a tertiary role ahead of Beckham Jr. and Bateman.

Buffalo Bills: International Men of Misery

  • Josh Allen and company made the long pilgrimage to London, facing off against the Jaguars in the NFL International Series.

  • The Bills struggled to find any momentum until the fourth quarter, scoring just seven points through three frames.

  • Josh Allen needed just 14 yards to lead the team in rushing while Damien Harris (3 Carries/13 Yards), Latavius Murray (2 Carries/6 Yards), and James Cook (5 Carries/-4 Yards) were effectively held out of the gameplan.

  • Cook’s negative (-)four yards on five carries marks the single lowest total of any running back this season with at least five attempts.

  • Major losses to the defensive side of the ball (LB Matt Milano, CB Tre’Davious White) have caused major shake-ups within the Bills franchise.

Carolina Panthers: Young and Reckless

  • Bryce Young tossed two costly interceptions against the Lions while Miles Sanders lost one fumble, allowing the Lions to run away with an easy 42-24 victory.

  • Young remains the only rookie quarterback this season to be selected in the first round without a win on their record.

  • Chuba Hubbard saw more carries (9) than Miles Sanders (7) as the latter continued to deal with a nagging groin injury.

  • Adam Thielen is turning back time in a familiar WR1 role. Thielen has earned seven or more targets in four consecutive contests, hauling in 36 receptions, for 382 yards and three touchdowns in that span.

Chicago Bears: Please Sir, Can I Have some Moore?

  • In Week 4 Justin Fields took advantage of a laughably soft Broncos defense, completing 16 of 16 pass attempts before his first incompletion.

  • Fields managed a career-high 335 passing yards and four touchdowns but ultimately cost the Bears a win with an untimely interception to Broncos defensive back Kareem Jackson that sealed the comeback win for his opponents.

  • Week 5 marked another career passing outing for Fields, this time leading to a 40-20 victory over the Commanders, breaking the Bears' 14-game regular season losing streak.

  • The Bears franchise quarterback tossed four touchdowns, completing 15/29 attempts for 284 yards with no interceptions.

  • D.J. Moore was on the receiving end of three of those touchdowns, catching eight of Fields’ 15 completions for 230 yards in a career-best outing for the veteran wideout.

  • Cole Kmet has established himself as a must-start fantasy tight end, positing back-to-back TE1 outings with five catches for 42 yards and a touchdown in Week 5.

Cincinnati Bengals: Smokin’ Joe Heating Up?

  • Leading into Week 5, Joe Burrow had only two touchdowns with three turnovers (2 Interceptions, 1 Fumble).

  • The Bengals offense as a whole had scored just three touchdowns this season, ranked dead last amongst all 32 NFL teams before their Week 5 outing against a lowly Cardinals defense.

  • All injury and scheme concerns were washed away as Burrow completed 36/46 pass attempts for 317 yards and three touchdowns.

  • Ja’Marr Chase accounted for 15 of those completions, and all three of Burrow’s passing touchdowns. The superstar wideout had a career game, catching 15 of 19 targets for 191 yards and the three aforementioned scores.

  • Australian sensation Trent Irwin was the second-leading target earner, hauling in eight of 10 targets for 60 yards.

  • Joe Mixon managed just 81 rushing yards on 25 attempts (3.2 YPC).

Cleveland Browns: *BYE WEEK*

Dallas Cowboys: Prescott Picks, Pollard Plummets

  • The Cowboys are a bipolar franchise with severe identity issues, showcasing extreme excellence one week followed by putrid incompetence the next.

  • Dak Prescott coughed up three picks to the 49ers defense, managing just 153 passing yards and one touchdown on 14/24 pass attempts.

  • Tony Pollard saw eight carries and five targets but managed just 64 yards from scrimmage (29 Rushing/35 Receiving) while losing a costly fumble.

  • No player on the Cowboys offense saw more than five targets as the team elected to spread the ball around despite disparaging results.

Denver Broncos: Broncos Country Let’s Jets Fly

  • The Broncos' once formidable defense has crumbled under the pressure of new management in the 2023 season.

  • The Broncos are conceding an absurd 187.6 rushing yards per game to opposing offenses, ranked 32nd as by far the worst rush defense in the NFL this season.

  • Those embarrassing numbers ballooned further in Week 5 as they allowed Breece Hall (177 Rushing Yards) and company (57 Additional Team Rushing Yards) to have their way.

  • Jaleel McLaughlin exploded onto the scene as he filled in for an injured Javonte Williams. The undrafted rookie found the endzone for the third time this season, totaling 68 rushing yards on nine carries and 21 receiving yards on three receptions.

Detroit Lions: Rookie Reigns King of Lions Pride

  • Sam LaPorta has shot up the value boards as the consensus dynasty TE1 after setting the rookie record for consecutive games with five or more receptions. LaPorta made good on his ranking again in Week 5, catching three of four targets for 47 yards and two touchdowns.

  • David Montgomery has enjoyed his time as the RB1 sans Jahmyr Gibbs, rushing for 109 yards on 19 attempts with one touchdown in Week 5. Montgomery disappointingly hauled in just two of his six targets, managing 20 receiving yards on low efficiency.

  • Jared Goff netted zero rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on two carries. Goff was much more efficient as a passer than a rusher, completing 20/28 attempts for 236 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers.

Green Bay Packers: *Updated Following Monday Night Football*

Houston Texans: Stroud Proud

  • C.J. Stroud is off to a historic start as a first-year quarterback. Only three quarterbacks in NFL history have started their first four games with more than 1,200 total passing yards. Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, C.J. Stroud.

  • The Rookie is also only the second quarterback in history to have no interceptions through his first four starts while averaging more than 30 pass attempts per game.

  • Stroud set another record during the Texans Week 5 loss to the Falcons with the most pass attempts (177) without an interception to begin a quarterback’s career.

  • The Texans are undeniably taking their losses in stride as they have found a true franchise cornerstone in their first-round rookie quarterback.

Indianapolis Colts: An Offense Taylor’d to Someone Else

  • Jonathan Taylor made his return after signing a lucrative extension with the very same franchise that forced him on the PUP list after negotiations fell through this offseason. Taylor is set to make 48.5 million over the next three seasons with 28.5 million guaranteed.

  • Unfortunately, Anthony Richardson will be placed on the sidelines with an AC-joint sprain, making the Colts' decision to financially tie themselves to a competitive year a hilarious miscalculation.

  • Taylor was immediately inserted into the lineup but had to watch from the bench as current Colts’ RB1 Zack Moss had a highly productive day against a top-rated Titans rush defense.

  • Taylor managed just 18 yards on six carries while Moss took 23 rush attempts for 165 yards (7.2 YPC) with two touchdowns, including a long 56-yard scamper for six points.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Home Away From Home

  • The Jaguars offense had lost all semblance of identity, scoring just 23 points combined in Week 2 and Week 3.

  • A seemingly much-needed vacation to their home away from home (London, England) was an excellent bounce-back point for the struggling offense.

  • In Week 4, the Jaguars whipped the Falcons on both sides of the ball, walking away with a 23-7 win.

  • Week 5 presented more international success for London’s favorite NFL team as the Jaguars dispatched a red-hot Bills squad.

  • The Jaguars defense allowed just seven points through three quarters.

  • Travis Etienne had his best game of the 2023 season, tallying 26 rush attempts for 136 yards and two touchdowns while catching four of his five targets for 48 yards.

  • Calvin Ridley had a big bounce back after falling to the wayside following a big Week 1 outing. Ridley caught seven of eight targets for 122 yards against an injury-riddled Bills defense.

Kansas City Chiefs: Catching Kelce

  • Travis Kelce went down with a terrifying non-contact injury, clutching his ankle and calf area. The worst was immediately assumed but the star tight end was eventually able to return to the game, walking away with a positive, albeit unfortunate, high ankle sprain.

  • Kelce finished the game with 10 receptions on a team-high 11 targets for 67 yards and one touchdown, leading the Chiefs in all receiving categories despite a reduced snap share.

  • Isiah Pacheco is quietly becoming a league-winning fantasy asset as he takes complete control of the Chiefs backfield. His growing target share and unshakeable rushing opportunities have made the second-year back a scintillating asset for managers to roster over the past two weeks.

Las Vegas Raiders: *Updated Following Monday Night Football*

Los Angeles Chargers: *BYE WEEK*

Los Angeles Rams: Cooper Puka Kupp Nacua

  • Cooper Kupp made his long-awaited return to the lineup, much to the dismay of Puka Nacua managers who assumed the star veteran would immediately suppress the production and value of his rookie teammate.

  • None of those worries came to fruition in Week 5 as both wideouts posted high-quality outings for their fantasy managers.

  • Kupp led the team with 12 targets, catching eight for 118 yards while Nacua drew one fewer target (11), hauling in seven passes for 71 yards and his second touchdown in as many games.

  • Kyren Williams is an unusable fantasy asset if he is unable to find the endzone. Williams currently ranks 37th amongst all running backs in Points Per Opportunity Excluding Touchdowns.

Miami Dolphins: I Am Speed

  • The Dolphins may very well possess the fastest offense in NFL history.

  • NextGen Statistics supports the above statement with some impressive MPH data. The seven fastest ball-carriers in the NFL this season are as follows:

    • 1. Tyreek Hill - 22.01 MPH

    • 2. De’Von Achane - 21.93 MPH

    • 3. De’Von Achane - 21.76 MPH

    • 4. Tyreek Hill - 21.66 MPH

    • 5. Raheem Mostert - 21.62 MPH

    • 6. Tyreek Hill - 21.52 MPH

    • 7. De’Von Achane - 21.50 MPH

  • The Dolphins' entire offense is averaging a top speed of 14.25 MPH (the fastest team average ever recorded through five weeks since the inception of NextGen Statistics).

  • Rookie De’Von Achane now ranks second in the NFL in rushing yards despite ranking 37th in rush attempts.

  • Achane added to his absurd totals in Week 5 with 151 rushing yards on just 11 attempts, averaging 13.7 YPC. The Dolphins speedster now has 460 rushing yards on 38 attempts (12.01 YPC) through his first four games, including three consecutive 100-yard rushing games with at least one touchdown in each contest.

  • Tyreek Hill is an unstoppable speed demon existing inside of the league’s most creative offense and the nightmares of every defender. Hill caught eight of nine targets for 181 yards and one touchdown in the Dolphins' decimation of the Giants in Week 5.

  • Jaylen Waddle made his return to the lineup after sitting out the last game with a concussion. Waddle had an off night but was still a serviceable fantasy asset, catching five of 10 targets for 35 yards and one touchdown.

Minnesota Vikings: More Loss Than One

  • The Vikings fell to 1-4 in a 27-20 loss to the Chiefs merely one week after tallying their first win of the 2023 season against the Panthers in Week 4.

  • Justin Jefferson caught three of six targets for 28 yards before exiting the contest with a hamstring injury. The extent of Jefferson’s injury is yet to be known but early rumblings amongst the Vikings beat reporters suggest that the star wideout could be hit with a multi-week injury designation.

  • Jordan Addison disappointed with a forgettable outing, catching zero passes with only one target in Week 4.

  • The rookie first-round wideout bounced back in a big way for the Vikings sans Jefferson. Addison tied for a team-high nine targets, leading the offense in receptions (6) and receiving yards (64) while hauling in his second touchdown of the 2023 season.

  • The entire Vikings offense managed just 70 rushing yards. Mattison: 8 Carries/26 Yards, Akers: 5 Carries/15 Yards, Chandler: 1 Carry/15 Yards, Powell: 1 Carry/9 Yards, Cousins: 3 Carries/5 Yards.

New England Patriots: Jonesin’ for a Change

  • The Patriots' offense was a disaster in Week 4, scoring just three total points against a strong Cowboys defense.

  • Mac Jones was eventually benched for second-year quarterback Bailey Zappe with head coach Bill Belichick citing Jones’ poor performance as the reason behind the decision.

  • The exact same outcome in Week 5 led to another mid-game bench spot for Jones as the Patriots had their doors blown off in a 34-0 shutout loss to the Saints.

  • Bailey Zappe was called upon for the second consecutive game but was unable to find any momentum.

  • Jones completed 12/22 attempts for 110 yards with 2 interceptions, including a 27-yard pick-six to Tyrann Mathieu early in the first quarter.

  • Six members of the Patriots offense (Bourne, Parker, Eliott, Gesicki, Smith-Shuster, Montgomery) saw at least four targets as the team desperately tried to supplement their lack of receiver talent by drawing up plays for every member of the offense. Keep ‘em on their toes, Bill.

New Orleans Saints: Saints March Through Patriots

  • The Saints' defense conceded 156 total yards (45 Rushing/111 Passing) to the Patriots' offense, allowing no touchdowns with two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

  • The Saints allowed only eight first downs to their opponents with a third-down conversion success rate of 7.1% (1/14 Converted Third Downs).

  • Alvin Kamara tallied a team-high 22 rush attempts for 80 yards with one touchdown. Kamara was understandably out-targeted by rookie Kendre Miller as the game script allowed the backups to see extra playing time.

  • Miller tallied 37 rushing yards on 12 carries, catching all four of his targets for an impressive 53 receiving yards.

  • Chris Olave has just three receptions for 17 yards in the past two games combined. Olave salvaged an otherwise lackadaisical outing with his first touchdown catch of the season.

  • Derek Carr’s shoulder injury has crashed the deep air attack of the Saints' offense as the usually apt field-stretcher struggles to put strength behind his throws.

New York Giants: The Cost of Dimes

  • Daniel Jones has failed to mount a touchdown drive in four of his five starts this season. Jones has thrown six interceptions to only two touchdowns this season, fumbling four times while losing two of those four fumbles.

  • Jones has been sacked 22 times this season, including 17 times in the last two games combined.

  • Darren Waller had his first positive outing of the 2023 season, catching a season-high eight receptions on a season-high 11 targets for a season-high 86 yards. Finally some meaningful production.

  • Wan’Dale Robinson was growing into his role as the Giants' most reliable wideout but will now serve time on the injury list with another knee injury.

  • The Giants' lack of pass-catching talent allows Waller to maintain his team-leading opportunity share and route participation role as the Giants’ pseudo-WR1.

New York Jets: Jets Stay Grounded, Offense Flies Mile High

  • Breece Hall’s pitch count was finally removed. It could not have come at a better time for his fantasy managers as the Jets ran all over the league’s worst rushing defense in a resounding 31-21 win over the Broncos.

  • Hall saw a full allotment of carries, tallying 177 yards on 22 attempts (8.0 YPC), including a 72-yard long touchdown run.

  • Dalvin Cook is dusty.

Philadelphia Eagles: The Brotherly Shove

  • The Eagles have made waves around the NFL with their near-unstoppable quarterback sneak, commonly referred to as “The Brotherly Shove.”

  • The offense converted several Brotherly Shoves on Sunday, including a game-sealing Jalen Hurts touchdown.

  • Hurts took a season-high 15 rushing attempts for 72 yards, leading the offense in both categories.

  • A.J. Brown continued his run as the unquestioned alpha after a hot start to the 2023 season from DeVonta Smith. Brown collected six of eight targets for 127 yards in the Eagles win over the Rams.

  • Smith played as a tertiary piece in the passing offense rather than his usual WR1(B) role as Dallas Goedert dominated an incompetent coverage assignment.

  • Goedert had his best outing of the 2023 season, catching eight of nine targets for 117 yards and one touchdown.

  • D’Andre Swift continues to dominate as the Eagles' true RB1 ahead of Kenneth Gainwell.

  • Gainwell saw seven carries for 17 yards with two targets while Swift tallied 17 carries for 70 yards with six targets, catching all six for an additional 38 yards.

  • Swift has surpassed 100 scrimmage yards in three of his last four games.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Division Leaders

  • The Steelers became divisional leaders of the AFC North after downing a dysfunctional Ravens squad in Week 5.

  • The Steelers are the only divisional leaders in the NFL that have a negative point differential through five games.

  • In fact, the Steelers' negative (-)31-point differential ranks 32nd amongst all teams in the NFL with a winning record.

San Francisco 49ers: Bay Area Beatdown

  • After five weeks of action, the 49ers appear to be the most well-rounded and dominant team in the NFL.

  • The 49ers are one of just two teams in the NFL that remain undefeated, joining their cross-country rival Eagles as the only 5-0 squads.

  • They are allowing just 13.6 points (1st) and 284.6 total yards (2nd) per game on defense while putting up 33.4 points (2nd) and 410.8 yards (3rd) per game on offense.

  • The 49ers 42-10 trouncing the Cowboys their regular season winning streak to 15 games and Brock Purdy’s regular season winning streak to 11 games.

  • Purdy had a career day, throwing for four touchdowns with no interceptions while completing 17/24 attempts for 252 yards against one of the league’s top-rated defenses.

  • The 49ers quarterback has gone from “Mr. Irrelevant” to MVP-Candidate as he is currently averaging 254.8 YDS/G with nine touchdowns to zero interceptions while completing 72.3% of his pass attempts.

  • Christian McCaffrey has now scored a touchdown in 14 consecutive contests, creeping ever closer to the NFL record as he ironically tied Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith’s current record of 14 in Week 5.

Seattle Seahawks: *BYE WEEK*

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: *BYE WEEK*

Tennessee Titans: Kingdom Collapse

  • The ongoing battle for the Titans' RB1 throne (at least in terms of snap share) continues to wage between Derrick Henry and Tyjae Spears.

  • The younger back has undeniably been more effective on his touches this season and continues to see well over 90.0% of the team’s total third-down snaps, spelling Henry as the classic change-of-pace option.

  • Against the Colts in Week 5, Henry tallied 13 carries for 43 yards (3.3 YPC) while Spears took seven carries for 34 yards (4.9 YPC) and one touchdown. Spears also added four receptions on five targets for 35 yards whereas Henry chipped in 19 receiving yards on three receptions and three targets.

  • DeAndre Hopkins tallied 140 receiving yards on eight catches and 11 targets, becoming just the third player in NFL history to record 100-yard receiving games with 10 or more quarterbacks throughout their career.

  • Hopkins has now recorded eleven separate 100-yard receiving games from different quarterbacks, trailing only DeSean Jackson and Joey Galloway (12) for the strange but impressive NFL record.

Washington Commanders: Fail to The Commanders

  • The Commanders were on the wrong side of Bears history, going down in the record books as the infamous team against which their opponents broke their epic losing streak.

  • The Commanders attempted 55 consecutive designed passing plays while trailing the Bears for most of the contest.

  • Somehow, Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson combined for just ten targets (5 Targets each) despite the increased percentage of passing plays.

  • The Commanders' offense had just 10 total rush attempts in Week 5.

  • Brian Robinson (6 Carries/10 Yards) and Sam Howell (4 Carries/19 Yards) made up the entirety of the Commanders' rushing production.

  • Logan Thomas led the team in targets (11), receptions (9), and receiving yards (77).

  • Antonio Gibson received zero carries but hauled in four of six targets for 64 yards.

  • Curtis Samuel functioned as the team’s top wideout, catching six of seven targets for 65 yards and one touchdown. Samuel should be rostered in all formats as he continues to provide utility.
