Week 8 Rookie Report

Welcome to the rookie report series. This will be a recurring series that highlights fantasy relevant rookies, how they performed in the prior weeks, and what that means for the future—all done with fun categories! Let’s dive in!

Rookie of the Week:

Ken Walker, RB, Seahawks

So nice he did it twice! Ken Walker had a dominant performance this week rushing for 168 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Chargers, earning the second straight Rookie of the Week honor. He was unstoppable in Week 7, running for 7.3 yards per carry, including and a very impressive 74 yard touchdown run. He has taken full advantage of the Penny injury and will continue to be a stud in fantasy and real life for weeks to come. In a pre-draft article, myself and fellow Broto writer Taren Caravella stated, “One main thing that is impressive about Walker is his vision.  He is always able to find the hole and explode through it”. Walker has brought this into the NFL and is using it to dominate NFL defenses.

Other Impressive Rookies:

Breece Hall, RB, Jets

Breece Hall had another fantastic run that resulted in a 62 yard touchdown. Devastatingly, he left the game early and tore his ACL. A crushing injury for a rookie who was well on his way to becoming a superstar.

Chris Olave, WR, Saints

National Football Post

On Thursday night, Chris Olave saw 14 targets and turned that into 7 receptions and 106 yards. He was the go-to guy for Andrew Dalton and with all the injuries the Saints have in the receiver room, he will continue to be the number one target. Olave is showing everyone that he can be a number one wide receiver and become the focal point of an offense, even as a rookie.

George Pickens, WR, Steelers

George Pickens has been Kenny Pickett’s favorite target since the rookie QB took over as the starter. Pickens finished with 61 yards and a touchdown in Week 7, leading all Steelers WRs in fantasy points. Pickens is slowly gaining momentum and becoming a solid fantasy option. The rookie is on the rise.

Disappointing Rookie of the Week:

Drake London, WR, Falcons

Drake London saw only 1 target this week and caught the single for 9 yards. In a game where the Falcons were trailing basically the whole game, they still somehow only passed thirteen total times. The rookie WR looked like he was on his way to becoming a trustworthy fantasy option earlier in the year but has fallen off drastically.

Honorable Mentions: Kenny PIckett, QB, Steelers, Alec Pierce, WR, Colts

Keep An Eye On This Rookie:

Greg Dulcich, TE, Broncos

Greg Dulcich was the deep sleeper in the Rookie Report for Week 6, however, after another stellar week, he has upgraded to the rookie to keep an eye on. He finished Week 7 with 6 catches on 9 targets for 51 yards. He was targeted a bunch in just his second career game. If the Broncos continue to play from behind, look for Dulcich to get more work. He can easily be a streaming option for the upcoming bye weeks.

Heartbreak of The Week:

Breece Hall’s knee injury

Breece Hall was the heavy favorite for offensive rookie of the year through the first six weeks but that all came crashing down once he tore his ACL. Not only was Hall fantastic as a fantasy asset, he was also just incredibly fun to watch. Heartbreaking for Hall.

How is He Still There of the Week:

Skyy Moore as Punt returner

For the second time of the year, Skyy Moore muffed a punt resulting in great field position for the opposing team. Twice is already far too many times. Let’s see if he keeps his job.
