Waiver Wire Targets: Week 4

Highlighted by the highs of the Dolphins 70 point offensive explosion and the shocking lows of the Cowboys, Jaguars and Saints losses, Week 3 has come to a close, leaving another super strange week of fantasy production in the rear view mirror.

The injury bug has unfortunately made its way through the league once again as well, ending Mike Williams’ season, as he suffered a torn ACL. For all injury news and Week 3 info, make sure to check out the Weekly Roundup!

Heading into Week 4, we have another very exciting and enticing list of players available on the waiver wire. So let’s jump right into it!

De’Von Achane (MIA RB)

Roster Percentage: 41%

Faab Recommendation: 50-75%

USA Today

Losers of the Jerome Ford sweepstakes, I hereby welcome you to the De’Von Achane sweepstakes! What is there to say about Achane’s Week 3 performance? In his first NFL game seeing more than just one carry, Achane received 41% of snaps, 18 carries and 4 targets, and all he did was turn that into 233 total yards and 4 TDs. The Dolphins scored a whopping 70 points in Week 3 and Achane was a big reason why, showing off his elusiveness, power and elite speed. Yes, Raheem Mostert is the lead back and yes, Jeff Wilson is due back eventually, however, both of these guys are injury prone runners and we know Miami is not going to use a single workhorse back. At the very least, Achane has earned his fair share of rushes and targets, even in a crowded backfield. Best case scenario though, Achane takes over as the lead in this backfield and sees 15+ valuable touches a game. Yes, it is a risky gamble, but it is a gamble I would be very willing to take.

Jakobi Meyers (LV WR)

Roster Percentage: 69%

Faab Recommendation: 30-40%

Meyers is rostered in far too many leagues for me to typically consider including him here, however, I had to shout him out after another very strong showing in Week 3. He looks like a very strong WR3 going forward and needs to be rostered if still available in your league.

Adam Thielen (CAR WR)

Roster Percentage: 47%

Faab Recommendation: 15-25%

Andrew Dalton made his first start as a Panther in Week 3 and boy did Adam Thielen have some fun. Thielen played 92% of snaps and led all Carolina players in targets, target percentage and receiving yards, finishing the game with 14 targets, 11 receptions, 145 receiving yards and 1 TD in a vintage performance. Thielen now has back to back strong performances and is the clear #1 receiving option in Carolina. I thought he was washed going into the season but he is making me eat my words through the first three weeks. He is looking like  a viable WR3/flex player moving forward with a higher ceiling as long as Andrew Dalton is under center.

Tank Dell (HOU WR)

Roster Percentage: 32%

Faab Recommendation: 15-20%

Dell was in this article last week as a <10% rostered player with a faab recommendation of 5-8%. If you missed the opportunity last week, you will almost certainly need to pay more this week. Dell followed up his impressive Week 2 with an even more impressive Week 3 in which he led the Texans in target percentage, turning his 7 targets into 5 receptions, 145 receiving yards and 1 TD in the Texans big upset over the division rival Jaguars. Dell’s stock is on the rise with his pal CJ Stroud enjoying a tremendous start to his career. Dell is a strong target heading into Week 4.

Romeo Doubs (GB WR)

Roster Percentage: 41%

Faab Recommendation: 10-15%

Without Christian Watson for a third straight week, Romeo Doubs put together his best game of the season on Sunday, securing five of twelve targets for 73 yards and a TD. Even if Watson returns in Week 4, Doubs is proving to be a very strong red zone weapon for Jordan Love and has some upside moving forward.

Josh Palmer (LAC WR)

Roster Percentage: <5%

Faab Recommendation: 10-15%

With the unfortunate news that Mike Williams has a torn ACL and is out for the rest of the season, Josh Palmer is back on the path to fantasy relevance. While first round WR Quentin Johnston is the flashy choice here, Palmer has consistently played over him, including in the short amount of time after Williams went down. We know that Palmer has WR3 ability and the Chargers run game has been absolutely anemic without Austin Ekeler. Palmer has WR3 upside moving forward, with a higher ceiling for every game that Austin Ekeler is forced to miss.

Marvin Mims Jr. (DEN WR)

Roster Percentage: 27%

Faab Recommendation: 5-10%

Mims continues to make big plays for the Denver Broncos despite the team being the laughing stock of the league. The issue with Mims is that despite all of the big plays, he was still held to just 16 total snaps in Week 3, twenty two less than Brandon Johnson. Mims is an upside stash and hold.

Rashee Rice (KC WR)

Roster Percentage: 26%

Faab Recommendation: 5-10%

Rashee Rice set a career high in snap percentage in Week 3 while also leading all Chiefs WRs in target percentage at 18.4%. While the game was a massive blowout with Blaine Gabbert taking over in the third quarter, it was good to see Rice get involved early and often, including a very close overturned TD that would have likely made him cost a lot more in this week’s waiver run. Rice has as good a shot as any Chiefs WR to separate himself from the pack. Stash and hold, similar to Mims.

Quentin Johnston (LAC WR)

Roster Percentage: 32%

Faab Recommendation: 5-8%

See Josh Palmer above. QJ is the flashy choice here but he is off to a very sluggish start to his career. This Mike Williams injury definitely opens the door to him for more opportunity but it seems as though he still has work to do before he can become a weekly startable option. Palmer is the safer bet at the moment and is more likely to be a usable asset for the next several weeks but QJ definitely has the higher ceiling if he can earn more targets as the season progresses.

Luke Musgrave (GB TE)

Roster Percentage: 18%

Faab Recommendation: 5%

Luke Musgrave was once again on the field for over 85% of snaps for the Packers in Week 3, setting a career high in targets with 8. A 6/49 line is notable at the anemic TE position, especially for a rookie.

Wan’Dale Robinson (NYG WR)

Roster Percentage: <5%

Faab Recommendation: 2-5%

Robinson played just 11 snaps in his first game of the season but turned those 11 snaps into 5 targets. An impressive conversion rate of nearly 1 target every 2 routes run. We can only expect Robinson’s snaps to increase now that he is healthy so now is a good time to stash him.

Josh Downs (IND WR)

Roster Percentage: <5%

Faab Recommendation: 2-5%

Josh Downs set a career high in target percentage and targets in Week 3 with Gardner Minshew under center, seeing 12 targets, good for 27.3%. Unfortunately, Downs turned the 12 targets into just 8 receptions and 57 yards. Downs continues to be a low aDot receiving threat and it is not ideal that his best game to date came with the backup QB under center. Nonetheless, Downs is a solid bench stash in deeper leagues.

Matt Breida (NYG RB)

Roster Percentage: 30%

Faab Recommendation: 2-5%

Breida was the lead back for the Giants last week but was able to muster just 18 yards on five touches, luckily finding the end zone for managers who started him. Breida remains a desperation flex play heading into the Giants Week 4 matchup with the Seahawks.

DeVante Parker (NE WR)

Roster Percentage: <5%

Faab Recommendation: 0-2%

Parker was on the field more than any other Patriot WR once again in Week 3. He did not have the production to show for it but he is worth a bench spot in deep leagues.

Alec Pierce (IND WR)

Roster Percentage: <5%

Faab Recommendation: 0-2%

Pierce made the list last week due to his every down role in the offense, despite the lack of targets. In Week 3, he saw a season high 7 targets, however, he was still third in WR targets behind Michael Pittman and Josh Downs. Like Parker, he is more of a bench spot guy in deeper league.

Melvin Gordon (BAL RB)

Roster Percentage: <5%

Faab Recommendation: 0-2%

With Justice Hill ruled out and Gus Edwards leaving the game early, Melvin Gordon became the lead back for the Ravens. MelGo turned 10 carries into 32 rushing yards and two receptions into 23 receiving yards. Gus is being evaluated for a concussion, which means he will likely miss one game, at most. Hill is also dealing with an injury that is not expected to keep him out for long. MelGo only has appeal if Gus and Hill both miss Week 4, otherwise he can remain on the waiver wire.
