Week 2: Clay's DFS Corner Recap

Week 2, where everything you thought you knew from Week 1 was wrong! Let’s break it all down.

The Good:

Sporting News

Sporting News

Kirk Cousins: Captain Kirk came through! He finished with 25.26 DK points and only cost $6200, just under a 4x value. Unfortunately, KJ Osborn ($3300 on DK for 20.1 points) was the main stack, not Jefferson or Thielen.

Fading James Robinson: Robinson only scored 9.4 points on a hefty $6400 salary on DK and $5500 on FD, however, his overall usage was much more promising. He out-carried Carlos Hyde 11-2 and out-targeted him 3-2. We’ll keep an eye on his salary as he may present a value at some point within the next few weeks.

Fading Kittle: Kittle’s price of $6400 on DK and $6700 on FD was steep. He only scored 5.7 DK points and 3.7 FD points on his 4 targets, which was 3rd most on the team. He has a 16.1% target share which is currently 10th among TEs and zero red zone opportunities. Big Yikes. Unless Kittle becomes dirt cheap, I will be avoiding him.

Fading the 49ers D/ST. This one worked out okay. The 49ers scored 8 DK points on a $3600 salary making them a middle of the pack option.

Kyler Murr-YAY:  I certainly had some influence from fellow BRoto writer Matt Ward (@PsychWardFF) on this pick. Kyler Murray is having an MVP fantasy campaign through two games and absolutely crushed his $8200 DK and $8700 FD salary by scoring 38.1 DK points and 35.1 FD points, respectively. The question is, do we go back to the well with the likelihood of an increased price for week 3? Check back in for Clay’s DFS Corner Week 3 to find out.

Noah Fant: Fant provided 13.3 points on a $4200 salary on DK, surpassing 3X his cost. I am hoping Fant’s salary does not get cranked up too high for week 3 as he seems to be a safer option at a palatable cost.

The Bad:

Jonathan Taylor: Things are not looking good for Jonathan Taylor. He was denied at the goaline and was only targeted once against the Rams. Taylor leads the league with 8 touches inside the 10 yard line and 6 touches inside the 5 yard line but has yet to find the end zone. We have to expect TD regression at some point right?!

Gerald Everett:  The game theory made sense but the results were horrible. Everett finished with one catch for 3 yards. Good news is he will be cheaper next week.  Not sure I want to venture down that path again though.

Fading Matt Ryan: The Bucs dominated this game for a bit, so I don’t feel terrible about fading him, but he did garbage time his way into 22.3 DK points on a $5600 salary.

Justin Herbert: Sweet locks but bad performance this week. Defensive Coordinator Dan Quinn seems to be making the Dallas defense better than expected, ruining the could-be shootouts that we all desired. Herbert did throw 2 INTs but also reached the 300yd passing bonus. This whole game was a disappointment. You hate to see it.

Denver D/ST:  Was really hoping for more out of the Denver defense against a rookie QB in Trevor Lawrence but 9 points isn’t the end of the world. Chalk this one up as a soft L.

The Ugly:

Nelson Agholor and Terrace Marshall: Neither of these guys did much of anything with just a paltry three targets a piece. Better luck next week.

Fading Najee Harris: Harris and the entire Pittsburgh offense struggled again. I initially had Harris in several lineups but pivoted to Damien Harris once Rhamondre Stevenson was a healthy scratch.

Steelers D/ST: Big ouch here. I guess the Raiders are for real.

Takeaways: Winning lineups in Single Entry Tournaments

For the DK Pylon, the winning lineup had a Brady/Gronk stack along with big dog Derrick Henry correlated with Tyler Lockett. One big hit that was certainly a bit lucky was Tony Pollard.

In the single entry DK Huddle, the winning lineup had a Bucs onslaught stack. of Brady, Fournette, Evans, and Gronk. Other players in the lineup included Derrick Henry, Brandin Cooks, Cooper Kupp and Devin Singletary. Singletary was a successful contrarian pick at 1.31% rostership.

Note to self: Keep cash and GPP plays separate. I mixed too many GPP plays in my cash lineup and it cost me.

Back to the grind!
