Week 7 Injury Round Up

Zach Wilson - QB New York Jets (strained PCL): Will miss between 2-4 weeks

ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that the Jets rookie quarterback will miss between two to four weeks after straining his PCL in the Jets Week 7 loss to the New England Patriots. Wilson took a hit from Pats Linebacker Matthew Judon that forced the rookie out of the game.

The second overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft will miss up to a month, meaning back-up QB Mike White will take over QB duties for the Jets. This makes the entire Jets offense undesirable moving forward.

Trey Lance - QB San Francisco 49ers (knee): Out for 1-2 Weeks

Lance did not participate in any practices this week and was out for the game. It remains unclear the severity of the rookie QB’s knee injury, but it was originally predicted that he would be out for one to two weeks.

Jimmy Garoppolo - QB San Francisco 49ers (calf): Should be okay for Week 8

When asked if Garoppolo would start Week 8 against the Chicago Bears, head coach Kyle Shanahan said, “I would guess so.” Shanahan also stated that he would have to look at the film before deciding who to start under center in Week 8.

With Garoppolo still recovering from that calf injury he suffered back in Week 5 and Trey Lance dealing with a knee injury, the Niners might struggle again in Week 8 against the Bears.

Josh Jacobs - RB Las Vegas Raiders (chest): Likely avoided major injury

DraftKings

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Jacobs likely avoided a major injury in the Raiders Week 7 win against the Eagles. The former Alabama RB suffered the injury on his touchdown run right before halftime and did not return in the second half.

The Raiders get their bye week in Week 8 so Jacobs will be able to rest up and could return for their Week 9 game against the New York Giants.

Miles Sanders - RB Philadelphia Eagles (ankle): Status uncertain

Eagles head coach, Nick Sirianni, said postgame that Sanders will undergo X-rays on his ankle to determine the severity of the injury. The first-year head coach added that the team doesn’t believe Sanders broke any bones but did not have a timeline for his return.

If Sanders is sidelined for a while, Kenneth Gainwell becomes a viable fantasy running back option. Fellow RB Boston Scott will get some work too, but we can assume that Gainwell will get the majority of the touches.

Malcolm Brown - RB Miami Dolphins (quad): Status uncertain

The veteran running back went down very early this past Sunday with a quadriceps injury. If Brown is forced to miss anytime, Myles Gaskin may finally receive a full workload, as evidenced by his busy Sunday. The Dolphins will probably figure out a way to frustrate Gaskin’s fantasy managers either way though.

Ty Johnson - RB New York Jets (concussion): Could miss time depending on concussion test results

Johnson left the Jets game this past Sunday after suffering a big hit. It is believed that the running back suffered a concussion and will enter concussion protocol this week to determine the severity of the injury. If Johnson were to miss any time, rookie back Michael Carter could see an even larger role, especially considering that the Jets starting QB, Zach Wilson, is also slated to miss between two to four weeks.

Jaylen Waddle - WR Miami Dolphins (leg injury): Minor ankle injury

The rookie receiver suffered what appeared to be an ankle injury in the Dolphins heartbreaking loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Waddle suffered the injury in the second quarter and was taken to the sideline for further evaluation.

Waddle did quickly return to the game, appearing in the Dolphins next offensive possession. Waddle’s return to the game is a good sign for fantasy managers. He should be good to go for the Dolphins week 8 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

D.J. Chark - WR Jacksonville Jaguars (ankle): Out for season

Jaguars Head Coach Urban Meyer confirmed Monday that Chark will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2021 season. The fourth year wide-out from LSU suffered a gruesome ankle injury in early October and was quickly placed on injured reserve.

With Chark out of the lineup, look for Lawrence to continue to target Marvin Jones Jr. as the number one option in the passing game.

Dyami Brown - WR Washington Football Team (knee): Sidelined for approximately two weeks

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported that Brown has a minor knee injury that will likely keep him sidelined for Washington’s next two contests.

The rookie receiver left Washington’s Week 7 game against Green Bay in the first quarter and did not return. With Brown sidelined and Curtis Samuel still dealing with a groin injury, the Football Team is down to Terry McLaurin, Adam Humphries, and DeAndre Carter as their three starting receivers.

Darren Waller - TE Las Vegas Raiders (knee and ankle): Likely back in Week 9

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported early Sunday morning that the star tight end was a “game time decision” for the Raiders Week 7 game against the Eagles. Waller ended up not suiting up. Back-up TE Foster Moreau stepped up as the team’s starting TE and produced in a big way, catching all six of his targets for 60 yards and a touchdown.

The Raiders enter their bye week at a perfect time. With their starting TE and RB dealing with injuries, both Waller and Jacobs will be able to rest up and hopefully be good to go for Las Vegas’ Week 9 game against the New York Giants.

Jonnu Smith - TE New England Patriots (shoulder): Status uncertain

The veteran tight end suffered a shoulder injury in the second quarter of the Patriots Week 7 victory over the Jets. Smith missing time would open up more opportunities for fellow TE Hunter Henry.
