BRoto Dugout ADP Fades: Rounds 11-20

Fantasy Baseball can be played in various formats—roto, points, categories, best ball, and more. I crafted these targets based on ADP from fantasypros and these are guys I am generally targeting in most leagues, no matter the format. However, for specific league based questions, message me in the dugout discord channel or message me on patreon!

Fades Per Round: Rounds 11 - 20

Round 12 - Tommy Edman, Joey Gallo

Tommy Edman's 2019 season was a great story. He came out of nowhere to make a huge difference for the Cardinals and fantasy teams alike and became a popular sleeper pick in 2020. I was not buying into it then and I am not buying into it now. While Edman is certainly very fast, the Cardinals don’t seem to like running very much as a team, so his best asset of stolen bases remains limited. Outside of the stolen base category, he is below average basically across the board. He was never a top prospect or projected to be a big piece of the Cardinals future, and his advanced stats leave a lot to be desired. I will once again be passing on Tommy Edman. Joey Gallo is basically the new generation’s Adam Dunn, except Adam Dunn was at least able to stay healthy and was consistent. Gallo is inconsistent, has dealt with various injuries, and helps destroy your batting average in roto leagues and categories. He gets a bump in OBP leagues as he always has a much better OBP than he does AVG, but he is a one dimensional power hitter and there are a bunch of those you can grab later in the draft. I honestly do not see the upside at all in drafting Joey Gallo.

Round 14 - Jonathan Villar, Devin Wiliams

Villar was a speculative pick at this point in the draft before he became a Met. His ADP has dropped significantly since, since he will not be a starting player, and rightfully so. However, he was still taken in round 15 of the expert FSGA draft that I participated in which is just absurd. Reaching for stolen bases like that is just absurd. I just want to make sure he is not drafted by you folks. As good as Devin Williams was in 2019, I just can’t spend a fourteenth round pick on a mid-relief pitcher. It just doesn’t make logical sense. As long as he is not starting and not closing, I will not be drafting him anywhere near his ADP.

Round 16 - Daulton Varsho

Varsho’s ADP is one of the more perplexing ADPs that I have come across this season. I understand the appeal, as he has catcher eligibility along with his OF eligibility, and it is rare to find a catcher that can help with speed like Varsho possibly could, but it seems more like a pipe dream than it does a reality. Varsho batted just .188 in his first stint in the majors last season, and while his 3/3 HR and SB split is nice, he was overmatched and did not match his minor league success. On top of that, Varsho is not even likely to start the season on the major league team. Drafting Varsho is drafting a pipe dream just because he has catcher eligibility. He will likely hit the free agent pool in your league so just wait until then if you want him that bad. Until then, hard pass.

Round 18 - David Fletcher

Beyond the Box Score

Beyond the Box Score

Unless you are desperate for batting average help, you can go ahead and scroll right on by David Fletcher in your drafts. He is a decent bench piece, but really does nothing to help your team outside of a strong average.

At this point in the draft, there are plenty of speculative picks to be made, players to help in certain categories, potential closers and more. About here is where I like to focus more on players I like, rather than players I will be avoiding. Making a blanket fade statement for some of these later round players is irresponsible as certain players could fit your team build. I am cutting off fades here, but will be continuing my targets through rounds 30+, so you know which players I tend to target this late in drafts. As always, you can message me on patreon or in the discord for specific questions!
