Week 4 Rookie Report

Welcome to the Rookie Report series. This will be a recurring series that highlights fantasy relevant rookies, how they performed in the prior weeks, and what that means for the future—all done with fun categories! Let’s dive in!

Rookie of the Week:

Chris Olave, WR, Saints

DK Nation

So far this season, both rookies of the week have been first round wide receivers. This week it is no different with Chris Olave getting the crown. Olave produced 9 receptions for 147 yards on 13 targets in an impressive week 3 performance. Olave has been improving every week and has now seen 13 targets in each of the last two. His route running has seamlessly transferred from college to the NFL and he is doing his best to prove to the Saints that his multi-first round pick cost was worth it.

Other Impressive Rookies:

Dameon Pierce, RB, Texans

Dameon Pierce had his best game in the NFL in Week 3. Pierce totaled 101 yards rushing and receiving this week while also adding his first NFL touchdown. It was also nice to see Pierce handle 20 rushing attempts to Burkhead's 3, establishing himself as the early down workhorse. If he can continue to get the volume, he can be a fine play for weeks to come.

Romeo Doubs, WR, Packers

Doubs was the ‘Rookie to Keep an Eye On’ last week and has made his way up to the impressive rookie list this week. Doubs caught all 8 of his targets for 73 yards and a touchdown, showing chemistry and trust with Aaron Rodgers. If Rodgers has trust in Doubs like this, then I do as well.

Alec Pierce, WR, Colts

Alec Pierce does not have a stat line worthy of list, catching just 3 passes for 61 yards, but when the three catches are as impressive as they were, then that changes the game. Pierce made very difficult sideline catches and catches in traffic that he made look effortless. If he can continue playing like this, he will certainly start getting more looks from Matt Ryan, and the Colts are in desperate need of a secondary receiving weapon.

Disappointing Rookie of the Week:

Jahan Dotson, WR, Commanders

After two stellar weeks to open his career, Jahan Dotson let fantasy owners down in Week 3 by totaling just 2 receptions for 10 yards. The Commanders played against a stout Eagles secondary which is a big part of why Dotson struggled, but he let fantasy managers down nonetheless. While Dotson was trending towards must start territory before this dud, I tend to believe this is more of a random week and he will bounce back next week with a performance more like his first two games.

Honorable Mentions: Ken Walker, RB, Seahawks, Treylon Burks, WR, Titans

Keep An Eye On This Rookie:

Jelani Woods, TE, Colts

Jelani Woods has not been on the field much through the first three weeks and had zero receptions through the first two, however, he made a big splash with his first two career receptions, finding the endzone on both, including the game winning TD in an upset over the Chiefs. The Colts drew up plays to get Woods the ball in the endzone to use his absurd size and impressive athleticism effectively. Keep an eye on Woods and see if he continues to be utilized in the endzone and more, as the Colts can use another weapon.

On The Decline:

Skyy Moore, WR, Chiefs

Skyy Moore had a lot of post NFL draft hype once the Chiefs selected him and added him to their rebuilt WR room. However, the hype has not come to fruition as Moore has hardly played at all and even muffed a punt this past week setting the Colts up for a score in a game the Chiefs went on to lose. It does not look good for Moore right now and there are no signs that it will turn around any time soon.

Catch of The Week:

George Pickens vs Browns

On Thursday Night Football, George Pickens did his best Odell Beckham Jr impression with an insane one handed catch along the sideline. It was an insanely athletic and difficult catch that Pickens made look much easier than it actually was. This catch may have sealed Pickens as the Best Catch of the Year winner, even if we are through just three weeks of the season.
