Dynasty Deep Dive: Stashes and Sleepers - NFC East

Last season, Matt Ward’s “Stashes and Sleepers” series famously brought you players like Elijah Mitchell, Khalil Herbert and Davis Mills. This year we are back with 32 names for you to stash on your dynasty rosters.

Dynasty fantasy football is not just about the stars. It is about depth, patience, and getting young budding talent that flies under the radar of consensus. Identifying opportunities to acquire upside players at low costs can help you create that dynasty juggernaut you have always wanted.

Next up, the NFC East.

NEW YORK GIANTS

Daniel Bellinger - Tight End

Giants.com

Daniel Bellinger is ludicrously undervalued for a rookie that is presumed to begin the 2021 season as the Giants starting tight end. Bellinger tops the team’s depth chart with no names of notoriety behind him. The organization recently traded veteran Kyle Rudolph to the Buccaneers, leaving Bellinger in a prime position to perform in his first season. The threshold for low-end TE1 production is a menial bar to surpass. The Giants rookie will simply need one good game in his inaugural season to see a monumental rise on the dynasty market. A fourth-round pick out of San Diego State, Bellinger is a prospect with minimal collegiate production. However, his athletic profile is second to none of his positional peers in the 2022 NFL Draft class. Bellinger weighs in at 250lbs at 6’5” with speed, burst, and agility scores above the 85th percentile. He is guaranteed to lead the Giants' tight end depth chart in snaps, targets, and receptions this season and should be rostered in all leagues.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

Quez Watkins - Wide Receiver

Eagles.com

Quez Watkins is the quintessential deep threat complement to The Eagles' duo of lead outside receivers in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Watkins has already far surpassed Jalen Reagor on the Eagles' depth chart, earning more receptions (43), targets (65), and yards (647) than the former first-round pick in 2021. Watkins will slide in as the Eagles' number three receiver and has proven to be a reliable big-play maven for the franchise. The third-year speedster will have tough competition for targets in 2022 but would see a massive increase in opportunity should Smith or Brown miss time. Watkins is an intriguing stash for potential spike-week production in the right matchup, as well as a contingency plan in the absence of either receiver mentioned above.

WASHINGTON COMMANDERS

Cole Turner - Tight End

nbcsports.com

The 2022 NFL Draft class is littered with high-upside rookie tight ends. Cole Turner is no exception to that sentiment. Turner closed out his collegiate career with two phenomenal seasons of production while at Nevada. In 2020, Turner recorded 49 receptions on 73 targets (20.3% target share) for nine touchdowns; he only played nine games that season. The following year, in his senior campaign, Turner upped his production with 62 receptions on 97 targets (17.0% target share) for 677 yards and ten touchdowns. The 21-year-old is an imposing force at 6’6” and over 250lbs and could soon find his way to the top of the Commanders depth chart. Veteran tight end Logan Thomas is entering the 2022 season on the PUP list after suffering a devastating achilles tear in 2021. The Commanders signed Ricky Seals-Jones in the offseason and drafted Turner in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft to supplement the loss of Thomas. Seals-Jones has done little throughout his career to prove he is more than a spot-starter for a team in desperate need of filling out the depth chart. If Turner can continue his promising training camp and preseason into the regular season schedule, he should surpass Seals-Jones as the starting tight end. Turner’s history of collegiate production and prototypical size will insulate his dynasty value throughout his rookie season, meaning managers can comfortably stash the prospect until he is afforded a starting role in which his value would skyrocket well above the current minimum cost.

DALLAS COWBOYS

Jalen Tolbert - Wide Receiver

The Cowboys have plenty of opportunities up for grabs entering the new season. Amari Cooper was traded to the Browns this offseason for pennies on the dollar. Michael Gallup signed a big contract extension but suffered a significant knee injury in 2021 and will miss several weeks to begin the season. Newly signed James Washington sustained a broken foot in training camp and will likely miss the entire year. These absences open up an opportunity for one of the Cowboys' receivers to cement themselves as the number two option behind CeeDee Lamb. Third-round rookie wideout Jalen Tolbert is the primary candidate to benefit from said absences. He has all the talent to succeed and maintain the starting role throughout his rookie campaign. I have waxed poetic on Jalen Tolbert at every opportunity leading up to the 2022 season. He has an outstanding collegiate profile, albeit from a small school (South Alabama). Nevertheless, the Cowboys' rookie receiver was able to torch SEC defenses on several occasions in his collegiate career. Including a monster performance against powerhouse Tennessee where he caught seven receptions for 143 yards and one touchdown. Tolunder-drafted drafted and undervalued as the WR54 (163rd Overall) in dynasty startups. Acquire the Cowboys rookie receiver at his low cost and reap the rewards as he develops on the NFL’s lead scoring offense.
