Week 16 Rookie Report

Welcome to the Rookie Report series. This will be a recurring series that highlights fantasy relevant rookies, how they performed in the prior weeks, and what that means for the future—all done with fun categories! Let’s dive in!

Rookie of the Week:

Jahan Dotson, WR, Commanders

Scott Taetsch-USA TODAY Sports

Jahan Dotson takes the rookie of the week honors this week. Dotson put on a show against the New York Giants on Sunday night, catching four passes for 105 yards and a touchdown. Dotson’s 61 yard reception in the fourth quarter was beautiful as it was clutch. Dotson tied Terry McLaurin for the lead in targets for the Commanders and is always an end zone threat with his 6 touchdowns in 9 games this year.

Other Impressive Rookies:

Garrett Wilson, WR, Jets

Garrett Wilson makes another appearance in this section after his 98 yard performance this week. Wilson has been the main target for Mike White and Zach Wilson this year and this has propelled him into the lead for offensive rookie of the year. Wilson continues to produce and is inching closer and closer to NFL stardom.

Trey McBride, TE, Cardinals

Trey McBride steps had one of the better games of his young career this week, recording 4 receptions and 55 yards on 5 targets. McBride was the second leading receiver for the Cardinals this week and was relied on heavily by the backups in Arizona. It is well known that rookie TEs are late bloomers—perhaps McBride is ready to close out the 2022 season on a high.

Drake London, WR, Falcons

Drake London has had an up-and-down season, mostly due to poor QB play, but showed out well in his first game with fellow rookie QB Desmond Ridder. London was the only player Desmond Ridder was looking at in the passing game, as he saw 42% of Ridder’s targets. If that volume persists, London can close out the season as a WR3.

Disappointing Rookie of the Week:

Rachaad White, RB, Bucs

Rachaad White was given the bulk of the work early in week 15 but did not show much when he touched the ball. Ultimately, White finished the game with only 43 total yards on 12 touches. He averaged a measly 3.5 yards per carry and had one reception on two targets. Next week’s matchup may be a get-right game for the rookie, as the Cardinals have a true matchup rank of 4th against running backs—5th against receiving and 6th against rushing.

Honorable Mentions:

Chris Olave, WR, Saints

George Pickens, WR, Steelers

Zonovan Knight, RB, Jets

Get Well soon, Rookies:

Dameon Pierce and Derek Stingley

The Houston Texans’ two standout rookies are out for the season. Unfortunately, this adds to a growing list of rookies who have had their seasons cut short. Get well soon, rookies.
